As a result of participating in this event, attendees will be able to:

  • Analyze examples of social media content to distinguish between professional, personal, and potentially risky online behaviors by the end of the session.
  • Develop a short, platform-specific guideline for their own social media use that aligns with a stated professional goal.

Dr. Jenny Presgraves

She is currently serving as Director of Professional Development and Well-being in the Graduate School.

Educational/training background

Dr. Presgraves has worked in education for 18 years, teaching a wide range of courses at both the high school and college level. While at Clemson, she has taught courses such as Anatomy and Physiology, Animal Reproduction, American Government, and Public Data Analysis. Dr. Presgraves has a master’s degree in Animal and Veterinary Science with research emphases in immunology and reproduction and a PhD in policy with an emphasis in science and technology policy. In addition, Dr. Presgraves has worked in student services at the graduate level for four years and been the course advisor for the Policy Studies PhD Program.

Event Description

Social media can amplify professional opportunities or undermine them, often in ways that are not immediately obvious. This session helps graduate students and postdocs critically evaluate their online presence and make intentional choices about how they engage on professional and semi-professional platforms. Participants will explore strategies for aligning online activity with career goals across academic, industry, and public-facing roles.
